8/48 = 3/x
Then you need to cross multiply. You will do 3*48 divided by 8.
(3*48) = 144
144 divided by 8 is 18.
X = 18
There were 18 adults.

Multiply both sides of the equation by (-1) to obtain positive coefficient for the first term:
