The structure of the cell membrane was discovered in 1895 by _________. finding a similarity to olive oil, he discovers membrane
Sidana [21]

In 1895, Ernest Overton proposed that cell membranes were made of lipids

According to the lipid bilayer theory, which Gorter and Grendel put forth in 1925, the cell membrane bilayer structure can be described using crystallographic research and observations of soap bubbles.

<h3>What is Cell membrane ?</h3>

All cells have a cell membrane, also known as a plasma membrane, which separates the interior of the cell from the external environment.

  • A semipermeable lipid bilayer makes up the cell membrane. The movement of materials into and out of the cell is controlled by the cell membrane.
  • Biological membranes serve three main purposes. First, they prevent harmful substances from entering the cell. Second, they have receptors and channels that let certain molecules, like ions, nutrients, wastes, and metabolic products,
  • Third, they divide metabolic processes that are necessary but incompatible that take place within organelles.

What is the relationship between structure and function of biological molecules?
Llana [10]

Biological molecules or biomolecules are the carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids that are produced by the living organism. A very significant relationship lies between their structure and function as they are inter relatable.

Biomolecules are designed in such a way that on forming a particular structure only their specific functions can be formed. It is to ensure that no molecules other than the desired ones bring a change. If the latter situation arises, it may refer to harm or lethality.

For instance, insulin binds to its receptor and decreases the blood glucose level. Change in its structure will lead in inability to bind to the receptor specifically designed to accomodate it. And if function is not dependent on structure, then any molecule may bind to the receptor and decrease the blood sugar level to the point that body may not be able to function.
