During the Neolithic revolution, people started settling in river valleys and establishing cities because they developed agriculture. It was of extreme importance for the development of human society because things like states were established and laws and people started developing basic science and things like that. Vicksburg was the last stronghold until the Union could have the Mississippi River. If they were to take Vicksburg, they would split the Confederacy and go along with their Anaconda Plan. They did so by starving Vicksburg to surrender.
President Woodrow Wilson, on behalf of the United States of America, was reluctant to enter WW1 and declare war on Germany. America wanted to remain neutral and out of the affairs of Europe. However, on May 7, 1915, Germany sunk a British ship that held more than 100 American passengers. Wilson tried to negotiate and after several failed compromises felt obligated to declare war on Germany.
