This is a very difficult question to answer without knowing what has been learned in class. I would stick to the super simple and say things like
The son likes sports
Al hijo le gustan los deportes
Or the son is sporty
El hijo es deportivo
Gramps likes music
Al abuelo le gusta la música.
Mom likes books
A la mamá le gustan los libros
Basic things like that
