The setting of a work of art is the physical and temporal environment of the events in the text. The physical setting is the geographical description while temporal is time location in history.

<h3>How does setting help to reveal?</h3>

The setting of the text reveals an old environment and the time of childhood which generate different feelings for the brothers. Thomas is tired of the old environment and eager to explore in the city while Alec feels slightly reluctant and still wishes to enjoy the memories of their childhood. These feelings of theirs are found in where Thomas says <em>'I can't wait to sell everything...' </em>and where Alec replies in a dull spirit.

Therefore, the correct answer is as given above.

Using a dictionary and the methods described at the beginning of the “Advanced Reading Skills” lesson, provide a “translation” o
qwelly [4]
I guess this also depends on what the "Advanced Reading Skills" lessons talks about, but don't think of it as "really hard"! Work on one word, one phrase, one sentence, and you'll start making progress. =)

In general, when translating, the first thing you'll have to do is to understand the paragraph, but you're right, this isn't that easy a paragraph to translate. You could use an English dictionary, or a bilingual dictionary (http://www.nciku.com<span>is good for English-Chinese) to help you. While you're doing this, try to pick out important words and translate them first, and see if you could understand what each sentence means. </span>

<span>Sometimes, words may have multiple meanings or be used as metaphors - for example, "amputated" means "having been cut off", but in your 2nd sentence, it means that the poet should not be condemned and criticised to the point where he is treated as having no value. </span>

<span>Finally, after you've translated the text, don't forget to read it to check if it makes sense in the language you're using - and if it makes for smooth reading!</span>

How does the underlined sentence develop the central idea that the crusades had both negative and positive results? it relays th
TEA [102]

The answer choice which best illustrates that the underlined sentence develops the central idea is; it shows that a muslim invention benefited european society.

<h3>Which best develops the central idea?</h3>

The passage in discuss reads thus;

<u>But the Crusades were more than battles; they were also an information exchange.</u> As a result of their contact with Muslims, the Europeans began to break out of their sealed-off world. They learned mathematics and, according to some scholars, how to build windmills. Windmills were a great power source that allowed Europeans to drain swamps and make use of lands that had previously gone to waste. With more land, they could grow more food. This knowledge that Muslims had helped Europe to get on its feet. And wars against the Muslims brought Europeans to sugar.

It therefore follows from the underlined sentence that there were negative and positive results from alliance.
