1.Most of the rail construction was made by Indian companies under the supervision of British engineers. They built a railway system of strong bridges and a mixture of broad-meter and narrow-gauge tracks. By 1901 India had a rail network covering 25,373 miles.

2.The electric telephone was invented in the 1870s, based on earlier work with harmonic (multi-signal) telegraphs. The first commercial telephone services were set up in 1878 and 1879 on both sides of the Atlantic in the cities of New Haven, Connecticut in the US and London, England in the UK.

3.Some new roads may remove some traffic from residential areas and so improve safety, air quality and noise. New roads, particularly if they induce traffic can worsen pollution, safety, severance and noise. Increased traffic can increase carbon emissions and other pollution
