The East India Company was a company that was founded to trade in the Indian Ocean. It eventually took over large parts of the Indian subcontinent as well as Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. The British Raj consisted of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Burma, and was known as the "crown jewel" of the British Empire due to its size and richness in resources. In 1947, the Raj was partitioned into the Dominion of India and Dominion of Pakistan. The partition displaced millions of Hindis and Muslims which created a large refugee crisis and violence. The nations in the Raj would eventually cut off royal ties and become the India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Burma we know today.
