 <span>its major advantage was that the allies had to cross a river to get to them...the americans had to cross the Rhine 

the germans had a major disadvantage beacause its soil is only about 5ft and then it becomes clay whcih cant support alot of weight when wet...this made it extremely difficult to build bunkers and forts...it took almost 3X the resources to build a bunker.
