When sarcomeres shorten, the muscle fiber SHORTENS.

Mechanism :

Sacromeres are used to construct the myofibrils, which are a part of the skeletal muscles of animals. They use the sliding filament model to carry out the muscle contraction and relaxation.

To create movement, The cross-bridge between actin and the myosin heads causes the sacromere to shorten. Muscle fibers contract as a result of this shortening of the sacromere, which has the overall effect of shortening the fibers.
