Physical exercise preserves bone mass. Measurements of bone biomarkers may reflect the events in bone during exercise. Fifteen healthy, well-trained individuals (7 men and 8 women) performed a running test for 21 min until exhaustion. Venous blood samples were drawn before and 30 min after the exercise to measure the levels of osteocalcin, the carboxyterminal propeptide of type I procollagen (PICP) and the carboxyterminal cross-linked telopeptide of type I collagen (ICTP). After exercise, the women had a marked increase in serum osteocalcin concentrations (from 7.5±5.0 μg/1 to 11.5±3.0 μg/1), whereas the level was unaffected in the men (from 14.5±3.0 μg/1 to 13.5±4.6 μg/l). In the men there was a marked increase in PICP (from 240±47 μg/1 to 268±56 μg/1) that was not seen in the women (from 244±70 μg/1 to 253±60 μg/1). In neither group did ICTP levels change. In conclusion, significant responses were seen in PICP and osteocalcin during exercise, indicating that such measurements may be valuable for the further delineation of the effects of physical activity on bone. Furthermore, the different responses in men and women point to interesting areas for future studies.
Answer:
a. Aging
c. Heredity
d. Crohn disease
e. High-fat diet
Explanation:
Colon cancer involves the abnormal growth of cells in the colon found in the large intestine.
Colon cancer is found to be hereditary in about 10 percent of patients .
It is also common with individuals who are used to taking high fat diets and affects most people older than 50 years old.
Crohn’s disease is also found to be a risk factor for having colon cancer.
Aplysia is a marine gastropod mollusc which is an often used model organism in neuroscience, especially on the cellular biology of learning and memory. What makes them easy to work with are their giant neurons, which are one of the largest. Aplysia neurons are suitable for studies of how neurons and neural circuits control behaviours. Its defensive reflex has been studied because it is mediated by electrical synapses, which allow several neurons to fire synchronously.
Lean body mass is the body mass attributed to non-fat body components, such as bone, muscle, and internal organs. In general, lean body mass is the mass of the body excluding the fat. It is important in fitness regimes. Most body builders want to maintain their lean body mass and decrease their body fat.
Answer : The dissociation constant of the PFK‑inhibitor complex is, 5 µM
Explanation :
The expression for reversible competitive inhibition when apparent Km affected by addition of the inhibitor is:
![K_m_a=K_m[1+\frac{I}{K_i}]](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=K_m_a%3DK_m%5B1%2B%5Cfrac%7BI%7D%7BK_i%7D%5D)
where,
= apparent value = 52 µM
= Michaelis–Menten constant = 40 µM
I = inhibitor concentration = 1.5 µM
= dissociation constant of the PFK‑inhibitor complex
Now put all the given values in the above formula, we get:
![52\mu M=40\mu M[1+\frac{1.5\mu M}{K_i}]](https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=52%5Cmu%20M%3D40%5Cmu%20M%5B1%2B%5Cfrac%7B1.5%5Cmu%20M%7D%7BK_i%7D%5D)

Therefore, the dissociation constant of the PFK‑inhibitor complex is, 5 µM
