Geography

When two oceanic plates collide, the younger of the two plates (because it is less dense)* will ride over the edge of the older plate. *(Oceanic plates grow more dense as they cool or move further away from the Mid-Ocean Ridge). The older, heavier plate bends and plunges steeply through the athenosphere, and descending into the earth, ir forms a trench that can be as much as 70 miles wide, more than a thousands miles long, and several miles deep.

See Hint The 2010 Mw 7.0 earthquake in Haiti caused an estimated 280,000 structures to collapse or sustain severe damage and res
faust18 [17]

Answer:

Options (2), (3), (4), and (7)

Explanation:

The factors that affects the number of deaths and the amount of damage caused by an earthquake depends upon the following things-

(1) Magnitude- The magnitude of an earthquake controls the amount of damage and loss of people. A high magnitude earthquake can cause greater damage in comparison to a low magnitude earthquake.

(2) Distance- The distance also plays an important role. When the distance from an earthquake is short, then the places nearby, at a certain radius gets affected very badly. Whereas, the places that are at a far distance, are not affected much by the earthquake.

(3) Depth- The depth of an earthquake depicts the epicenter distance. Shallow depth earthquakes are responsible for massive destruction. But, the deep focus earthquakes does not affect much unless it has a much stronger magnitude.

(4) Material that is used for construction of buildings- The type of materials that is used for construction purpose also is important. Weaker materials are easily broken down resulting in the collapsing of building. So, hard and resistant rock must be selected in order to maintain the stability of the buildings.

Thus, the correct answers are options (2), (3), (4), and (7).

MOVEMENT How would you describe the difference between changes in the geographic center and changes in the population center?
lesantik [10]

Answer:

The mean center of population is the place where an imaginary, flat, weightless, and rigid map of the United States would balance perfectly if all residents were of equal weight. Historically, the movement of the center of population has reflected the expansion of the country, the settling of the frontier, waves of immigration and migration west and south. Since 1790, the center of population has moved steadily westward, angling to the southwest in recent decades.

SOURCE: Geography Division, "Centers of Population Computation for the United States 1950-2010," issued March 2011, available at www.census.gov/geo/www/2010census/centerpop2010/COP2010_documentation.pdf. Consulted for historical reference: Historical Atlas of the United States, National Geographic Society, 1988.

NOTE: The Proclamation Line of 1763 limited British settlement to areas east of the Appalachian Mountains. Alaska and Hawaii were not included in the calculation of the mean center of population until 1950. Puerto Rico was not included in any decade. For more information on the mean center of population, an animated map, and other resources. This graphic is adapted from the "Census Atlas of the United States" published by the Census Bureau in 2007.
