In this unit, you learned that the United States has had a two-party political system for much of its history. Currently, most e

lected officials at the state and federal levels, including the presidency, are members of either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. Do you think the two-party system is fair? Or, do you think the nation would benefit from having more officials from third-parties elected into offices? Suppose that you could propose a third party? Describe the purpose of your party, including the name you would give to it and the political platform it would embrace.

I believe that the nation would benefit from having third party officials elected into office.

The third party would be important in checking the excesses and the lapses of the other two parties. They would help to bring in new reforms into the political atmosphere.

What was the intended purpose of FDR's court packing plan?
Brums [2.3K]

Explanation:

After winning the 1936 presidential election in a landslide, Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed a bill to expand the membership of the Supreme Court. The law would have added one justice to the Court for each justice over the age of 70, with a maximum of six additional justices. Roosevelt’s motive was clear – to shape the ideological balance of the Court so that it would cease striking down his New Deal legislation. As a result, the plan was widely and vehemently criticized. The law was never enacted by Congress, and Roosevelt lost a great deal of political support for having proposed it. Shortly after the president made the plan public, however, the Court upheld several government regulations of the type it had formerly found unconstitutional. In National Labor Relations Board v. Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation, for example, the Court upheld the right of the federal government to regulate labor-management relations pursuant to the National Labor Relations Act of 1935. Many have attributed this and similar decisions to a politically motivated change of heart on the part of Justice Owen Roberts, often referred to as “the switch in time that saved nine.” Some legal scholars have rejected this narrative, however, asserting that Roberts' 1937 decisions were not motivated by Roosevelt's proposal and can instead be reconciled with his prior jurisprudence.

9. The two state solution is an idea that there would be two independent and sovereign states, one for Israel and one for Palestine, and they would be based around their people and would not try to influence each other's politics or would not try to fight or anything similar and would stick to the deal when it comes to border disputes.

10. The United States firmly supports the two state solution and has historically tried to remain neutral and not take sides in the conflict, as long as human rights are preserved by both sides. There were some presidents who sometimes seemed to support more one side or the other, but the official stance is that a two state solution is the best one.
