Yes, the rules of grammar and punctuation keep on changing in the world today. The rules being followed are dynamic in nature and change according to the trends followed in the society.

A number of the changing trends have found their way into the English language which has caused extinction of a few grammar rules. However, it is necessary that we should know the pre-existing rules in order to cope-up with the changes.

Some of the relative rules that have changed in the 21st centaury are:

  • splitting of infinitives
  • The use of period/full stop
  • Do not start a sentence with a conjunction
  • The use of each other and one another

Therefore, there have been changes in the rules of grammar and punctuation.

Books today are so available that they are unappreciated

Explanation:

From the authors point of view, books are unappreciated today because of its availability.

Unlike in the past where books are unavailable, people of the past use the triangular point of a stick to press marks into thick tablet made from wet clay. But there has been a lot of development in books which makes it available for anyone at anytime. The unrestricted availability of books has made it loss it's value

What is the main idea of this excerpt?
leva [86]

Answer:

D. Even those who struggle in their lives outside of school have a  responsibility to make an effort with their education.

Explanation:

In the given passage, President Obama reiterates the importance of education irrespective of one's personal life. This Back to School speech stresses the need for kids to focus on their academic life no matter what circumstances they face in life.

By stating that <em>"none [of the circumstances of your life] is an excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude in school"</em>, the President advised the students/listeners that it is important to try to make school work. Thus, the main idea of the excerpt is that everyone has the responsibility to make an effort with their education.
