The square for the  equation:  y=2x^{2} + 12x +1 is y=2(x+3)x^{2} -17

The square for the  equation:  y=4x^{2} +48x-10 is y=4(x+6)x^{2} -154

a)

y=2x^{2} +12x +1

y = 2[(x^{2}  + 6x)] + 1 ( taking common)

y = 2[(x+3)^{2}   - 9] + 1 ( adding and subtracting 9 to make a square term

y = 2(x+3)^{2}  - 18 + 1 ( multiplying by 2)

y=2(x+3)x^{2} -17

b)

y=4x^{2} +48x-10

y = 4[(x^{2}  + 12x)] - 10  (taking 4 common)

y = 4[(x+6)^{2}  - 36)] - 10 (adding and subtracting 36)

y = 4(x+6)^{2}  - 144 - 10(multiplying by 4)

y=4(x+6)x^{2} -154

calculate the social security and medicare tax that would be applied to an annual salary of $56,010.a.social security tax: $347.
krek1111 [17]
Given:
Annual salary: 56,010
Social Security tax rate: 6.2%
Medicare tax rate: 1.45%

Both these taxes are computed based on the annual salary.

Social Security tax:
56,010 x 6.2% = 3,472.62

Medicare Tax:
56,010 x 1.45% = 812.145 or 812.15

Total taxes paid:
3,472.62 + 812.15 = 4,284.77

2x-y=4 ..........(1)

x+y=5 ...........(2)

<u>Add equation 1 and 2:</u>

We get:

3x=9

x=9/3

x=3

Substitute value of x in (2):

x+y=5

3+y=5

y=5-3
