Read the selection below from the short story “The Pit and the Pendulum” by Edgar Allan Poe and answer the question that follows

.
I saw clearly the doom which had been prepared for me, and congratulated myself upon the timely accident by which I had escaped. Another step before my fall, and the world had seen me no more and the death just avoided was of that very character which I had regarded as fabulous and frivolous in the tales respecting the Inquisition. To the victims of its tyranny, there was the choice of death with its direst physical agonies, or death with its most hideous moral horrors. I had been reserved for the latter. By long suffering my nerves had been unstrung, until I trembled at the sound of my own voice, and had become in every respect a fitting subject for the species of torture which awaited me.

<h3>What is the idea of the story 'The Pit and the Pendulum ?'</h3>

The complete question is attached to the image below.

The Pit and the Pendulum is a story that reveals the topics of death and fear. The madness of the narrator is not so obvious at first and does seem sane at the beginning of the story.

But by the end of the narration, the readers can see that the narrator is getting insane and mad as can be seen by the lines that show not so great mental health of the narrator. He seemed to have been shocked and was trembling at his own voice.

Therefore, the narrator was getting mad as the story was coming to an end.

D) a local news station's statistics on vehicle collisions involving teen drivers

The question asks about reliable information. A teenager's blog and a parent forum both contain personal opinions and therefore would not be considered reliable sources for information about the driving tendencies of teenage drivers. A streamed video of a lesson on driving safety may have specific information that would be considered reliable but it is more of an instruction manual on what to do. The best reliable source would be statistics on vehicle collisions involving teen drivers.

What is your ideal society? What do you think is necessary to achieve it?
Lana71 [14]

Answer: An ideal society can be defined as a society where every individual is self content and lives a healthy and peaceful life.  A society, to be termed as ideal, needs to fulfill certain criteria. First of all, an ideal or perfect society should have equality among men.

Explanation: “The Ideal society has yet to be built- one which balances nicely collective well-being and individual well-being” (Peace Pilgrim). When you look to improve both one person along with an entire community, you will meet the needs of everyone which ultimately leads to balance. There are many ways to develop a ideal society and help contribute to improvements. Three areas to improve to create a ideal society would include a democratic government, fuel efficient modes of transportation, and advanced education systems in smaller school.
