Answer:

Acknowledge the speaker's point and try to connect the topic

Explanation:

When speaking with other people it is polite to aknowledge what someone says even if you want to change the topic. Therefore, in order to change the topic you should acknowledge what the person said first. This shows that you were listening. You can then connect your new topic into what they were saying. It would be rude to simply ignore what the other speaker says or to tell them that what they said is not important or did not hold your interest.

George Orwell’s purpose in writing “Politics and the English Language” is to .....
irina [24]

Answer:

The correct answer is C. George Orwell’s purpose in writing “Politics and the English Language” is to persuade readers of political essays and speeches to write in a simpler way, not copying the style of the politicians.

Explanation:

"Politics and the English Language" is an essay written by George Orwell in 1946, in which he criticizes contemporary written English for being "ugly and imprecise".

Orwell argues that prose of a political nature was created to "make lies look like truth and respectable murder, and to give a semblance of solidity to what is only wind." Orwell believed that since the purpose of these writings was to hide the truth instead of expressing it, the language used was necessarily imprecise or meaningless. This lack of clarity was a style that had "infected" those who had no intention of hiding the truth, resulting in the writer's ideas being concealed from himself and his readers, whereas Orwell advocated the use of the called plain English.
