It is characterized by the formation of atherosclerotic plaque caused by the action of multiple cardiometabolic risk factors, which clogs the arteries.

The pulse pressure increases with this condition as fatty deposits and other cellular products build up and harden the arteries, causing them to narrow, this stiffness (usually of the aortic artery) mainly causes the increase in this value as it indicates the vascular elasticity on the arterial wall.
