The term tPa is called tissue plasminogen activator. Its main purpose is to decrease the blood pressure of the patient in the case of an ischemic stroke. A stroke is sometimes called a cerebrospinal accident. It could lead to the death of some brain cells thereby causing damages such as loss of speech or locomotion.

The IV of this drug should be given after about 4 hours of the manifestation of the stroke symptoms. The most appropriate action that should be taken by the nurse is to monitor the patient every 1 - 2 hours.
