President Hoover approached the Great Depression problem by promoting his vision of government cooperation and private sectors. Which urged businesses, Government, and the banks to act in the best interest of the country, not themselves. As the depression got worse, he signed legislation(s) for public work projects and increased gov. spending.

Thoreau, like other romantic authors, does not agree with tradition.  He thinks it prevents people from finding true greatness and blocks their path to spirituality. The north seemed to gain more of its goals. The balance of the senate was now with the free states . The major victory for the south was the Fugitive Slave Law (FSL).  In the end the north refused to enforce it.
