Let x represent  how long each sprinkler was used

Hence:

40(x)+15(55-x)=1575

40x+825-15x=1575

Collect like terms

40x+-15x=1575-825

25x=750

Divide both side by 25x

x=750/25

x=30 hours

Therefore the Jenkins used the sprinklers for 30 hours while Green's used it  for 25.
