Personification: giving a human action to a non living thing

for exsample// my pet rock died today.
this is a personification because rocks cant actually die.

Personification is when you make an inanimate object appear to have human features.  Some examples would be:

<span>The ocean heaved a great sign as the day moved on.</span>

Walking outside I heard the tree groan from the heavy lashing of the wind.

Giving a tree a mouth, making rocks have feelings, anything like this is "personifying" it.
