Social isolation and loneliness as risk factors for the progression of frailty: the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing

Loneliness and social isolation have been linked with premature mortality and with functional decline in older people.

We found that high levels of loneliness, but not of social isolation, increased the risk of becoming physically frail.

Neither loneliness nor social isolation were associated with the rate of change in a more broadly defined frailty index.

Loneliness

Loneliness is a subjective feeling of dissatisfaction with one’s social relationships. Both social isolation and loneliness have been linked with increased mortality [2–4], incident heart disease [5, 6] and functional decline [7, 8]. Social isolation and loneliness tend to be correlated, albeit weakly .

Social isolation :

Social relationships are important for health . Most such research has focused on social isolation or loneliness. Social isolation is defined objectively using criteria such as having few contacts, little involvement in social activities and living alone.

Frailty :

Frailty is a clinical syndrome whose main feature is heightened vulnerability to stressors due to lowered physiological reserves, decline in the ability to maintain homeostasis and impairments in multiple systems

A frailty index score reflects the proportion of potential deficits present The phenotype model defines frailty in physical terms, whereas the cumulative deficit model uses a broader definition of frailty.

-BARSIC- [3]

Answer:

Husbands remain primarily responsible for earning the income and wives are primarily responsible for the house and children. This is an arrangement sociologists call the gendered division of labor.

Explanation:

The gendered division of labor refers to the assignment of different tasks or different responsibilities to men or women for the sole reason of their biological sex. This form of social organization of work is historically adapted to each society and is characterized by the priority allocation of men to productive activities (occupations of strong added social value, such as commerce, industry, enterprises, and politics) and women to the reproductive sphere (activities related to care and household chores). This division has a strong impact on the positions and functions held by women and on their income, since women are mainly assigned tasks and occupations that refer to care and services that are less socially valued.

algol13

Answer:

We have to find the author, time, intended audience, main idea, context, bias, and accuracy of the text.

Author - a candidate for government office.

Time - government election campaign.

Intended audience - potential voters.

Main idea - the candidate is the only one who can be trusted with taxpayer money, and this is crucial because taxpayer money is being wasted.

Context - Government intervention does more harm than good: raising taxes on successful businesses to fund failing public schools only has the effect of both reducing wealth creation, and educating children poorly.

Bias - the candidate has anti-goverment bias.

Accuracy - the candidate does not provide evidence to back his claims in the speech, thus, the accuracy of it cannot be properly gauged.

What are the behaviour culture and traditions of the people of a society similar
Brrunno [24]

Answer:

Often, a comparison of one culture to another will reveal obvious differences. But all cultures also share common elements. Cultural universals are patterns or traits that are globally common to all societies. One example of a cultural universal is the family unit: every human society recognizes a family structure that regulates sexual reproduction and the care of children. Even so, how that family unit is defined and how it functions varies. In many Asian cultures, for example, family members from all generations commonly live together in one household.
