On high-pressure surfaces, where the pressure is high, the air above sinks. As the air sinks, the pressure increases (because of the atmosphere above it), and the temperature of the sinking air increases. In this case, evaporation usually outweighs condensation, so cloud droplets do not form.

Areas of high pressure move very slowly and can be almost stationary. Such slow-moving air regions can prevent other fast-moving printing systems from moving into them. For this reason, they are called blocking anticyclones or blocking anticyclones.
