Answer:

When it came to interacting with native Americans, Christopher Columbus and Mary Rowlandson had two quite different experiences. Even though Rowlandson views the Native Americans as cruel and nasty, Columbus seems to have hope for them. Due to their good character, Columbus reasoned, the natives would make simple converts to Christianity. Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, wife of a Congregationalist preacher, was held captive for three months. She wrote an account that went on to become a cultural symbol in the United States. Mary is extremely judgmental of Native Americans and has no affection for them.

Answer:

B. He wanted to make the poem more concise and direct.

Explanation:

Ezra Pound wrote a 30-line poem where he narrated his experience in a Paris metro station but he discarded this version because he did not like it.

Much later, he again tried narrating his experience, this time making the narration shorter than the first, but he again discarded it.

Finally, after reading Japanese hiakus, Mr. Pound finally wrote his experience in a two-line version that has now become immensely popular because of its length.

So, he reduced his poem from a 30-lined one to two lines because he wanted to make the poem more concise and direct.

Natasha_Volkova [10]

Answer:

The two sentences from “Civil Disobedience” by Henry David Thoreau that supports the transcendentalists' idea that the individual is more important than government or society are;

It has not the vitality and force of a single living man

For a single man can bend it to his will

Explanation:

According to David, it is the responsibility of the government to end the unjust actions happening to citizens with the aim of collecting taxes. As long as the government continues with its unjust actions, individuals have a right to choose whether to pay taxes or not by defying the orders of the government.

David’s declaration is that if the government wanted people to take part in the government practices that were unjust. Then people will not have any choice but to break the laws even though it means ending pin prison.
