The rule of the translation of point P(–5, –4) to point P′(–8, –7) is:

(x,y) -> (x - 3, y - 3).

<h3>What is a translation?</h3>

A translation is represented by a change in the function graph, according to operations such as multiplication or sum/subtraction either in it’s definition or in it’s domain. Examples are shift left/right or bottom/up, vertical or horizontal stretching or compression, and reflections over the x-axis or the y-axis.

In this problem, from point P to point P', 3 was subtracted from both the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate, hence the rule is given by:

(x,y) -> (x - 3, y - 3).

Historically, Australia has 300 indigenous languages. Only 90 are still spoken today. What percent have gone extinct?
shtirl [24]

Answer:

70%

Step-by-step explanation:

well first you have to take put 90 over 300, times 100

<u>90</u> <u>100</u> = 30%

300 × 1

That gives you the percentage that is spoken today.

Then you have to take away that answer from 100%

100%

<u>-</u><u> </u><u> </u><u>30</u><u>%</u>

70 %

(50 POINTS) What is the length of YZ in Triangle XYZ? Explain two different methods that could be used to find this length.
LenKa [72]
<h3>First Method:</h3>

<u>Using cosine rule</u>:

\rightarrow \sf cos(30 ) = \dfrac{YZ}{12}

\rightarrow \sf YZ = 12cos(30 )

\rightarrow \sf YZ = 6\sqrt{3}

\rightarrow \sf YZ = 10.4

<h3>Second Method:</h3>

<u>First find XY using sine rule</u>:

\rightarrow \sf sin(30)=\dfrac{XY}{12}

\rightarrow \sf XY = 12sin(30)

\rightarrow \sf XY =6

Then use Pythagoras Theorem:

⇒ XY² + YZ² = XZ²

⇒ (6)² + YZ² = 12²

⇒ YZ² = 144 - 36

⇒ YZ = √108

⇒ YZ = 6√3

⇒ YZ = 10.4
