Answer:

His opposition to the Mexican-American War and slavery.

Explanation:

He was an American essayist, philosopher, poet, abolitionist, and historian.

On July of 1846, he was asked by the local tax collector, Sam Staples, to pay a six years debt of poll taxes. Thoreau refused to pay because of his opposition to the War and slavery. Because of that, he spent a night in jail.

This had a great impact on him and two years later he published "Civil Disobedience", an essay that sustains that individuals should not permit governments to overrule their consciences.

One way in which President Andrew Johnson and
Romashka [77]
One way in which President Andrew Johnson and President Bill Clinton are similar is that both were 4. acquitted by the Senate after being impeached. Andrew Johnson was impeached after removing his Secretary of War from office, breaking a law which stated the President could not remove Secretaries from the Cabinet without Congressional approval. Bill Clinton was impeached after it was discovered he lied under oath; when asked if he had had intimate relations with a White House aide, Monica Lewinsky, he stated "no," but then it was discovered that was false. However, both remained President because neither were found guilty by the Senate.

Why did these observations persuade galileo that the geocentric view of ptolemy was wrong?
Valentin [98]
During Galileo's time, people believe that the universe is geocentric, even though there was no concrete proof to back this up. When Galileo discovered the phases of Venus and other heavenly bodies, he knew that his discovery could not fit the mold of the geocentric theory. His discoveries contradicted the geocentric theory. With evidence and actual observation (and not just hypothesizing), Galileo was convinced that geocentrism is wrong and the real center of the solar system is the Sun.
