Collagen is a member of a family of naturally occurring proteins. It is one of the most plentiful proteins present in mammals and it is responsible for performing a variety of important biological functions.

It is most well-known for the structural role it plays in the body. It is present in large quantities in connective tissue and provides tendons and ligaments with tensile strength and skin with elasticity. It often works in conjuction with other important proteins such as keratin and elastin.

Collagen synthesis begins specialized cells called fibroblasts . It is here that amino acids undergo activation; Proline is hydroxylated to Hydroxyproline and Lysine to Hydroxylysine.

Peptide subunits of 250 residues are assembled on the ribosome and are linked by carbohydrate residues to form α-chains. Three α-chains then associate with each other and then further associate extracelluarly forming a molecule with a molecular weight of 360,000.

Bonds are further strengthened thus forming the insoluble collagen fibril [1] [2]. During the process of collagen synthesis, free-hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine peptides appear as by-products, some of which are metabolized and may appear in urine

In bacteria, the antibiotic tetracycline blocks the site where tRNA molecules enter the ribosome. The MOST likely reason that ba
svetoff [14.1K]

Answer:

Tetracycline was discovered in the 1940s and is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Tetracycline is an antibiotic which kills the bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of protein.

Tetracycline act by inhibiting the process of translation by preventing the binding of aminoacyl-charged tRNA to the A site of the ribosome.

Since the aminoacyl charged tRNA does not bind the A site therefore the process of translation is inhibited.

notka56 [123]

Answer: 0.147

Explanation:

Using Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium

q2 – 20/3000 = 0.0066

q – √0.0066 = 0.08

p – 1- 0.08 = 0.92

P² = 0.8464

2pq – 2 x (0.92) x (0.08) = 0.147

Why are there usually fewer organisms in the top levels of an energy pyramid?
tatuchka [14]

Most organisms in the top levels of an energy pyramid require more food than those on lower levels. On top of this, each level of the pyramid looses energy gained from food. This means that there needs to be more lower leveled organisms for the ones on top to eat in order to gain enough energy. Because of this, there's only enough food for a few of these types of organisms.

I hope this helped! There are probably a few more details you can add, but this is the overall reason :)

zavuch27 [327]

Answer:

Agua

Explanation:
