During early pregnancy, the membrane of cells that forms the wall of a blastocyst and also gives nourishment to the embryo before developing into part of the placenta.

Trophoblasts are cells that form the outer layer of a blastocyst and supply nourishment to the embryo before developing into a substantial portion of the placenta.

A thin layer of cells that assists a developing embryo in attaching to the uterine wall, protects the embryo, and becomes part of the placenta.

While the trophoblast eventually gives rise to the outer chorionic sac and the fetal component of the placenta, the pluriblast gives rise to all embryonic tissues as well as some extraembryonic membranes.
