Our perceptions are often guided by previous experiences, expectations, and assumptions. This illustrates the concept of top-down processing.

Perceptions in top-down processing start with the most general and work their way toward the more detailed. Our expectations and prior information have a big impact on how we perceive the world. Simply said, your brain fills in the gaps and projects what will happen next using what it already knows.

For instance, even when just half of a tree limb is visible when it is covered, you typically know what it looks like. You already have a generalized understanding of what a tree looks like.

Our grasp of the world is made easier by top-down processing. We can quickly interpret all the data our senses provide thanks to it.

Wollstonecraft describe the stereotypical woman of the time:

 • Wollstonecraft observed the ladies in her society and thought solely of their clothing and other trivial pursuits, describing them as childlike, weak in body and mind.

 • Similar to domestic animals, their genuine natures had been corrupted, but significantly, this also meant that through alternative education, there was a chance they would rediscover what she called woman's "natural state."

The traits men value in women are-

 • High-value Women are aware that being a nice, enjoyable spouse increases their value and appeal.
 • They also realise that in order to walk with a high value man, they will need to give up control of the relationship's framework and put their trust in him to act as the leader.

Wollstonecraft’s argument seek to counter such stereotypes by-

 • She authored "A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792)", a groundbreaking feminist work in which she makes the case that the educational system purposefully taught women to be frivolous and incapable and that if girls were given the same advantages as boys, women would not only be exceptional wives and mothers but also competent workers.
 • Then, in a ground-breaking statement, she continues, "I shall first evaluate women in the great light of human creatures, who, like men, are created on this earth to unveil their faculties.

What did supreme court decisions incorporating the bill of rights mean
earnstyle [38]

Prior to the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, The Bill of Rights ( the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution) only applied to the Federal government. This meant that states were not obliged to adopt the Amendments and the laws that came as a result of them.

After the Civil War ended, the Fourteenth Amendment was created and ratified, the Bill of Rights was now applicable not only to federal courts but also to state ones. This meant that citizens were now more protected, as federal and states obligations are the same in most cases.
