The key contributing factor is that the baby is born earlier, and the earlier the baby is born, the greater the likelihood that it will have RDS and require additional oxygen and assistance with breathing.

Describe RDS.

When a baby is born early (prematurely), its lungs are not fully matured, which causes respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). At around week 26 of pregnancy, the lungs begin to produce a liquid called surfactant. The lungs produce more surfactant as the fetus develops. The lungs' tiny air sacs are coated with a surfactant, which helps prevent them from collapsing. To allow oxygen from the lungs to enter the blood and to release carbon dioxide from the blood into the lungs, the air sacs must be open. While RDS can affect other neonates, it is more frequently seen in premature infants.

Ket [755]

Answer:

The correct option is: C) ectoderm

Explanation:

In the embryos of vertebrates, neurulation is a folding process by which neural plate transforms into neural tube. In this process, the notochord signals the ectoderm germ layer to form a neutral plate, which folds in upon itself and leads to the formation of a neural tube. This neural tube then differentiates into brain and the spinal cord, thus forming the central nervous system.

What do the spinal cord and the brain have in common? And what are the differences between them?
IrinaVladis [17]

Answer:

Like the brain, the spinal cord is covered by the meninges and cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid. Spinal nerves connect the brain with the nerves in most parts of the body. Other nerves go directly from the brain to the eyes, ears, and other parts of the head.

The spinal cord is a single structure, whereas the adult brain is described in terms of four major regions: the cerebrum, the diencephalon, the brain stem, and the cerebellum.
