Chesapeake colonies had rich soil and temperate climates which made large-scale plantation farming possible. The regions had an agriculture-based economy in which cash crops like tobacco, indigo, and cotton were cultivated for trade.

What was the Chesapeake's social structure like in the 1700s?

 • Low life expectancy (largely due to disease), reliance on indentured servitude, weak family life, and a hierarchical structure dominated by planters at the top over masses of poor white and black slaves at the bottom characterized seventeenth-century Chesapeake society.
 • The merchants, vendors, and small farmers of the colonies were the largest social class in the South and Chesapeake regions. These were ordinary citizens, moderately educated and skilled, but eager to work hard and build the America they desired.

 • The Chesapeake colony of Maryland, granted by Charles I to Sir George Calvert, the first Lord Baltimore, was one of the first proprietary colonies, or colonies owned by an individual rather than a joint-stock company.

How did U.S. Economic policies contribute to the change in the gross national product from 1927 to 1934?
lakkis [162]

The years prior to 1929 were affluent and optimistic; there was a general belief that stock markets would continue to grow indefinitely, and speculation was rampant. Nevertheless, this was not the case, and a great economic crash occurred in October 29, 1929, also known as Black Tuesday. Billions of dollars were lost. It marked the beginning of the great economic downfall known as “The Great Depression”, that lasted until 1939.The president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt, created multiple agencies and promoted public policies to address the problem of poverty and unemployment. To sum up, there was an initial era of total deregulation (the 20s), followed by a great economic depression, which led to interventionist policies and the final recovery of the American economy.

Veronika [31]

Answer: B: To expand the meaning of the word American to include all people.

In these lines, Kennedy addresses the question of civil rights, and in particular, the rights of black students to attend white institutions. He implies this in the sentence: "It ought to be possible, therefore, for American students of any color to attend any public institution they select..." The reason why he mentions the troops in his speech is because he wanted to make an analogy between the troops and the students. He argues that if black soldiers are considered American enough to fight abroad, then black students should be considered American enough to attend any college they desire.
