The possible number of sweets he can have is 124.

The elimination method is the technique of casting off one of the variables within the system of linear equations using the addition or subtraction methods together with multiplication or division of coefficients of the variables.

Inside the elimination method, you both add or subtract the equations to get an equation in a single variable. whilst the coefficients of 1 variable are opposites you upload the equations to dispose of a variable and when the coefficients of one variable are equal you subtract the equations to eliminate a variable.

Let the number of sweets be x and the total number of friends be y.

Now after taking 4 by each

X=4y+4

And after taking 5 by each

X=5y-26

Now by solving the above equation by elimination method.

Y=30 and x=124 which means sweets will be 124 and total friends are 30.

The following figure is not drawn to scale.
erik [133]

Answer:

The triangle angle rule says that all of the angles in a triangle will add up to equal 180. So to find x we subtract the given angles ( 45 and 60 in this case) from 180.

x = 180-60-45

180-60-45=75

so x = 75

To find y we know that angle x and and y are angles formed on a straight line that are split up by a triangle segment. These angles are called supplementary angles which add up to equal 180.

So knowing that angle x = 75 we can find angle y by subtracting 75 from 180

180-75=105 so y = 105

Another way we could solve for y is the exterior triangle rule

This rule states that an exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the two opposite interior angles

so y = 45 + 65

45 + 65=105

so y = 105
