The length of the platform is 240 meters.

Given Data:

Speed of the train = 54 km/hour

                            = [(54 × 1000) / 3600] m/s

                            = 15 m/s

Time is taken to pass the station platform = 36 seconds

Time is taken to give the man = 20 seconds

To Find:

The length of the platform =?

Solution:

The train passes the man standing on the platform in 20 seconds. So, the distance traveled by train is:

Distance = speed × time

Distance = 15 m/s × 20 seconds

Distance = 300 meters

Now, when the train passes the platform, the total distance traveled will be increased, the combined length of both the train and the platform.

Total distance = Length of the platform (P) + length of the train (T)

Total distance = speed of the train × time taken to pass the station

P + T = 15 m/s × 36 seconds

P + T = 540 meters

P + 300 meters = 540 meters

P = 540 – 300

P = Length of the Platform = 240 meters.

So, a train with a speed of 15 m/s and a length of 300 meters will take 36 seconds to cross a platform 240 meters long.

This problem can be readily solved if we are familiar with the point-slope form of straight lines:
y-y0=m(x-x0) ...................................(1)
where
m=slope of line
(x0,y0) is a point through which the line passes.

We know that the line passes through A(3,-6), B(1,2)

All options have a slope of -4, so that should not be a problem.  In fact, if we check the slope=(yb-ya)/(xb-xa), we do find that the slope m=-4.

So we can check which line passes through which point:

a. y+6=-4(x-3)
Rearrange to the form of equation (1) above,
y-(-6)=-4(x-3)  means that line passes through A(3,-6) => ok

b. y-1=-4(x-2) means line passes through (2,1), which is neither A nor B
   ****** this equation is not the line passing through A & B *****

c. y=-4x+6  subtract 2 from both sides (to make the y-coordinate 2)
   y-2 = -4x+4, rearrange
   y-2 = -4(x-1)
   which means that it passes through B(1,2), so ok

d. y-2=-4(x-1)
   this is the same as the previous equation, so it passes through B(1,2),
   this equation is ok.

Answer: the equation y-1=-4(x-2) does NOT pass through both A and B.

A florist uses 225 branches of winterberry to make 75 wreaths. Based on the ratio or unit rate, how many branches of winterberry
kondaur [170]

Answer:

the number of branches required to use 25 wreaths is 75 branches

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that

The florist used 225 branches of winterberry for making 75 wreaths

First we have to compute the unit rate or the ratio

= 225 ÷ 75

= 3 : 1

Now the number of branches required to use 25 wreaths is

= 3 × 25

= 75 branches

Hence, the number of branches required to use 25 wreaths is 75 branches
