It is often believed that the greatest approach to launching a Soloists career is to win a prominent competition. The next step is to find representation, schedule a tour, and then proceed to test oneself on stages all around the world.
Some of the early recognized composers include Leoninus and Perotin. They inherited musical genres from the Middle Ages, such as plainchant, discant, and organum. While two voices harmonize in discant, the entire choir sings one tune in plainchant.
