Based on the excerpt about the election of Andrew Jackson, the reason the Founding Fathers believe the Electoral College was necessary was because They believed Americans lacked the knowledge to choose the best candidate.

Why did the Founding Fathers support the Electoral College?

When the Founding Fathers came up with the Electoral college, the reason they did so was because they thought that Americans did not have the required knowledge to pick a candidate that would best represent their interests.

They weren't trying to infer that Americans were ignorant and uneducated, they just didn't think that Americans would be able to learn enough about the candidates with them being so spread apart. So they concentrated power in the hands of electors who they believed would have better knowledge of the candidates.

In what instance would direct democracy be applicable in a country?
Montano1993 [528]

Answer:

Direct democracy or pure democracy is a form of democracy in which people decide on policy initiatives directly. This differs from the majority of currently established democracies, which are representative democracies. The theory and practice of direct democracy and participation as its common characteristic was the core of work of many theorists, philosophers, politicians, and social critics, among whom the most important are Jean Jacques Rousseau, John Stuart Mill, and G.D.H. Cole.[1]
