What is disaster?

A disaster is a serious problem that occurs over a short or long period of time and results in widespread human, material, economic, or environmental loss that exceeds the affected community's or society's ability to cope using its own resources.

A disaster is defined as "any unfortunate event" or "any sudden or great misfortune." A disaster is defined as "an event whose timing is unexpected and whose consequences are severely destructive." These definitions identify an event that consists of three components: Suddenness.

A disaster is a destructive event that occurs unexpectedly and results in the loss of life and property. Natural disasters and man-made disasters are the two types of disasters. Natural disasters include earthquakes, volcanic activity, tsunamis, floods, cyclones, landslides, avalanches, and droughts, over which man has no control.
