What does respect look like to you? :

I think respect to me looks like someone being nice.

Be specific and provide examples. :

One example of when I was respectful is when I was listening to my teacher and didn't talk over her.

Another example of me when I showed respect is when I make people day because the way I make people day is giving them compliments.

My last example when I was respectful is when I helped other people with there school work.

Why do you think that is respectful?

I think my first example is respectful because all of my classmates would be able to understand her and it would be rude if I talked over her and since I don't talk over her I was being respectful.

For my second example, I say that's respectful because I say the truth but in a nice way as well.

For my last example I think it's respectful because they'll understand it and would not be stressed about it.

What do you think disrespect looks like?

To me I think disrespect looks like when people are being mean or when they are being rude.

Again, be specific and provide examples.

Some examples when I saw people being disrespectful is when someone was ignoring me because it annoyed me.

Another example of when I saw people being disrespectful is when they meant to hurt people on purpose.

My last example of when I saw people being disrespectful is when they would make fun of people and judge them.

How do you feel a mature person should respond to disrespect?

I feel like they should say "Hey could you be a bit respectful because I'm kinda not liking the way you're acting."

Which sentence in this excerpt from Common Sense by Thomas Paine supports the claim that the American colonies could thrive inde
alina1380 [7]

All the sentences support the claim that the American colonies could thrive independently from Britain. The one that does it more directly is number 3: But even this is admitting more than is true, for I answer roundly, that America would have flourished as much, and probably much more, had no European power had any thing to do with her.

Sentences 1 and 2 are simply explaining - by comparing the country to a child - how naive is the claim that, if America once needed Britain, it would always need Britain. It would be the same as saying a child will never eat meat because he/she was first raised my being fed milk.

Sentence 4 is only claiming America has found a lucrative livelihood by taking advantage of European habits and needs.

Sentence 3 makes it clear that, in Paine's opinion, America not only is successful but could have done even better if there had been no interference from Britain at all from the very start. Such connection was not essential for America's development, it only hindered it.
