Great Britain colonized areas of North America. They imposed a system of mercantilism, this gave them a monopoly on raw materials from the colonies which they would later use to create products and sell them back to colonists. The French and Indian War put Great Britain in debt, so parliament decided to tax the colonists to pay for the war. Great Britain continued to exert their control over the colonists which created tension between them.

The market forces regulate production to align with the supply. As demand increases, the supply is increased to meet the new demands. when the government controls production there may be a surplus of goods that are not needed and a scarcity of basic goods. The economic principles that inform production may be undermined by political agendas.
