Enterocytes present in the columnar epithelial layer of the intestines is responsible for the absorption of digestion food materials.

What is the absorption process in the intestine?

In the small intestine, the process of absorption happens on the lumenal side of the mucosa. It is covered by finger-like projections which are called villi.

Each of the villus is covered by several invaginations which are called crypts. On average, each villus is surrounded by eight crypts.

The cells present in the villus are mainly absorptive in nature and these are used for absorbing the dietary nutrients, materials that are originating from the pancreatic secretions, and the damaged cells removed from the mucosa.

Therefore, enterocytes present in the columnar epithelial layer of the intestines are responsible for the absorption of digestion food materials.

Explain why mitosis does not produce genetic variation and how meiosis leads to the production of tremendous genetic variation.
VladimirAG [237]
Mitosis produces cells that are genetically identical to the parent cell.
Meiosis includes two distinct processes that contribute to the generation of
genetic variation: crossing over shuffles alleles on the same chromosome
into new combinations, whereas the random distribution of maternal and
paternal chromosomes shuffles alleles on different chromosomes into new
