Wilson established his position in the Progressive movement with his "New Freedom" economic reform plan.

What is Progressive movement ?

From the 1890s through the 1920s, the United States saw the Progressive Era, a time of strong social and political change aiming at advancement toward a better society.

Reformers of the Progressive Era tried to use the federal government's power to eradicate unethical and unfair corporate practices, curb corruption, and mitigate the bad social repercussions of industrialisation.

Workers' and consumers' rights were improved during the Progressive Era, and women eventually gained the right to vote.

"The New Freedom" this agenda, which was approved by Congress at the end of 1913, contained tariff, banking, and labor reforms, as well as the introduction of the income tax.

Wilson also increased the size of the executive branch by establishing the Federal Reserve, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Internal Revenue Service. His emphasis on efficiency and bureaucracy placed him solidly in the Progressive camp.
