The amiodarone belongs to class III of the Vaughn-Williams classification system of antidysrhythmic medications.

What is antidysrhythmic medications?

Antiarrhythmic drugs comprise many different drug classes and have several different mechanisms of action. Furthermore, some classes and even some specific drugs within a class are effective with only certain types of arrhythmias. Therefore, attempts have been made to classify the different antiarrhythmic drugs so by mechanism. Although different classification schemes have been proposed, the first scheme (Vaughan-Williams) is still the one that most physicians use when speaking of antiarrhythmic drugs.

The following shows the Vaughan-Williams classification and the basic mechanism of action associated with each class.

  • I - Reduce phase 0 slope and peak of action potential.
  • IA - Moderate reduction in phase 0 slope; increase APD; increase ERP.
  • IB - Small reduction in phase 0 slope; reduce APD; decrease ERP.
  • IC - Pronounced reduction in phase 0 slope; no effect on APD or ERP.
  • II - Block sympathetic activity; reduce rate and conduction.
  • III - Delay repolarization (phase 3) and thereby increase action potential duration and effective refractory period.
  • IV - Block L-type calcium-channels; most effective at SA and AV nodes; reduce rate and conduction.

How do power plants hurt the environment?
djverab [1.8K]

Answer:

A power plant can hurt the environment in different ways and the effects can either cause permanent damage or temporary damage.

Many power plants use fossil fuels as a source of energy. As a result, fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal, oil etc become depleted.

Water is used abundantly by the power plants to cool down various products or for many other processes. When this contaminated water is released in the rivers it becomes harmful for the wildlife animals and plants. It leads to eutrophication.

Power plants also tend to release many harmful gases into the air and cause environmental pollution.

What is the definition of density anomaly ?
Ahat [919]

Answer:

Most liquids become monotonically denser when cooled from room temperature, but liquid water reaches its maximum density at approximately 4°C, below which it expands to become less dense as it is cooled further. To explain this density anomaly, several ideas have been proposed.
