The medieval romances usually involve <u>Damsel in Distress</u> Romance. The medieval age of English Literature was filled with romances where the hero always woes the female.

We can take Wife of Bath's Tale as an example to understand one of the elements of the age. It talks about chivalry and the wife's obedience toward her husband. The hero of her story was a knight who has to get the answer to a question as ordered by the King. In search of the question, he meets an old and ugly woman who gives the answer but she asks for a promise from the knight that if her answer is correct then he has to marry her. The knight agrees and the answer given by her was true, as promised he marries her and after the wedding, the old ugly woman becomes a Beautiful young woman which him happy.
So both the woman and the knight saved each other.
