Social scientists use content analysis to observe styles in communication in a replicable and systematic manner. One of the key blessings of using content evaluation to examine social phenomena is its non-invasive nature, in contrast to simulating social studies or collecting survey answers.

Practices and philosophies of content analysis vary among academic disciplines. All of them contain systematic reading or remark of texts or artifacts which can be assigned labels (every now and then called codes) to indicate the presence of exciting, meaningful pieces of content. with the aid of systematically labeling the content of a fixed of texts, researchers can analyse patterns of content quantitatively the use of statistical techniques, or use qualitative strategies to examine meanings of content within texts.
