Trevor's guilt arises from a psychological conflict between Jeff's desire to remain up late on a personal level and the belief he received from his parents that staying up late is wrong.

Due to the strain Jeff is under to follow his parents' demands, he felt guilty for staying up late because he felt as though he was somehow betraying them.

The phrase "psychological conflict" in psychology refers to a particular circumstance in which a person is driven to engage in two or more activities that are mutually exclusive or incompatible.

However, a person experiences psychological conflict when they use symbolic, overt, emotional, or verbal responses to complete or fulfil one motivation that is viewed as incompatible with the other that is necessary to fulfil another.

A.) This letter doth make good the friar’s words,

Their course of love, the tidings of her death:

B.) And I, for winking at your discords too,

Have lost a brace of kinsmen: all are punish’d.

C.) Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things:

Some shall be pardon’d, and some punished:

D.) Seal up the mouth of outrage for a while,

Till we can clear these ambiguities,

Answer:

B.) And I, for winking at your discords too,

Have lost a brace of kinsmen: all are punish’d.

Explanation:

The lines selected above, were said by the Prince of Verona when he realizes that as a monarch he should have ended the fight between the families of Romeo and Juliet, because although he knew that the fight between these families was a wrong and unacceptable thing, he and the families allowed this enmity to last long enough to create tragedies like the death of young people.
