Convergent evolution happens when there is a similar genetic pressure and a specific genetic variation emerges as a result of natural selection.

It occurs when organisms that belong to different species adopt similar traits.

For instance, people often get confused between shark and dolphins because they both have quite similar appearances, even though they belong to different species.

These species adapt in the same way as a result of similar selective pressure.

They often have a common origin and ancestor but variations occur due to diversity.
