The debate over whether development occurs gradually, without discernible shifts, or through a series of distinct stages is termed Continuity vs. discontinuity.

Continuity refers to the view that development is a gradual, continuous process. Discontinuity refers to the view that development occurs at several different stages. A similar argument exists over nature and nurture.

Of course, both the continuous and incremental development camps are right in their own way. While it is true that development is a never-ending and continuous process, it is also true that discernible shifts there are stages of growth and that development unfolds at predictable times throughout life.

poizon [28]

The correct answer is A) bottom-up.

The kind of processing that is exemplified by the following scenario is bottom-up processing.

This is the scenario: Esther’s mother offers her a new dish she’s been working on―a raisin-jalapeno quiche. Esther’s body responds first: Esther eyes the content of the skillet, and smells the mix of raisins, jalapenos, and eggs. Her stomach churns and she looks away. Feeling disgusted and disappointment, she says “I’m not hungry.”

When we are talking about bottom-up processing, we are referring to one of the two processes implicated in perception. The other one is Top-down. Bottom-up means processing sensory information as it is coming into the mind. If you see something very quickly and disappears, your eyes send the image to your brain and it starts to build up the necessary information so you can have a picture of what you saw.

Eduardwww [97]

Even though the American Mafia does not have written rules, it does have an elaborate set of norms that govern behavior.

Who are the American Mafia?

The American Mafia, an Italian-American organized crime network operating in cities across the United States, particularly New York and Chicago, rose to power during Prohibition in the 1920s due to its success in the illegal alcohol trade.

What are norms?

Social norms are shared standards of acceptable behavior in groups. Social norms can be either informal understandings that regulate the behavior of members of society, or they can be codified in rules and laws.

Examples from Western culture include:

 • long lines at store counters,
 • saying "bless you" when someone sneezes, or
 • pushing the door behind you to let people into a building.
