From 618, when the Tang Dynasty began, to 1279, when the Song Dynasty ended, China experienced a golden age marked by numerous advances in agriculture, literature, and art, while population growth resulted in urbanization.

Agriculture, iron-working, and printing were all advanced technologies during the Song (Sung) Dynasty (960-1276). Scholars today speak of a Song economic revolution. During this period, the population grew rapidly, and cities became increasingly populous.
