One way in which the French and the Spanish were similar is that they both tried to make the Native Americans, Christians.

One way in which the French and the Spanish were different is that the Spanish were more hostile to the Native Americans than the French.

How were French and Spanish colonists similar?

French and Spanish colonists were both predominantly Catholics and they tried to spread Christianity to the Native Americans that they placed under their control.

The French and the Spanish were different however in that the Spanish were hostile to the Native Americans. They viewed them as conquered people and so subjugated them with little mercy. The French on the other hand preferred to work with the Native Americans and so were generally preferred.
