The purpose of the primary treatment is that to settle the material by the gravity, removing the floatable objects, and also reducing the pollution to the ease and the secondary treatment. Primary Treatment is aims to reduce the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and the Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in wastewater.

The Primary treatment is the sewage and the treatment that involves the physical removal of the particles (large and the small) from the sewage through the filtration and the sedimentation. Initially the floating debris is also removed by the sequential filtration. Then the grit (soil and small pebbles) are also removed by the sedimentation.
