Youth Risk behavior refers to the unhealthy behaviors which are undertaken by youth mostly due to peer pressure or being raised in a hostile and bad environment.

   Most times, youths do potentially risky things to feel a sense of belonging to a group. They want to perform, impress, show off or do what they think is ‘normal’ for their group.

Some Risky Behavious exhibited by youths include the following

  • Unprotected sexual activity
  • Substance abuse
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Preventable injury and violence, including self-harm.
  • dangerous driving
  • Illegal activities like trespassing or vandalism
  • Fighting

Parents and guardians should ensure that the undertake the following measure to mitigate and address youth risk behaviors.

  • Ensure your wards have a healthy and balanced lifestyle. This means, eating a balanced diet, getting regular exercise, avoiding tobacco and drugs and getting plenty of rest. inadequate physical activity
  • Attend school and public functions of your wards
  • Regularly create family time to discuss issues with your wards.
  • Protect them from negative influences
